Here is what I know about this instrument- I used it for about 7yrs testing steam traps. I lent it to a"friend" and they busted it up and left it in the bed of their truck in the rain overnight. It has sustained water damage- as is apparent of the rusting residue on the foam inside the case and the fogging of the backlight display that can be seen in the pics.

The unit did power on last week when I put fresh batteries in it but the buttons were unresponsive and the laser did not work. I tried to power it on again tonight and nothing happened at all. The battery compartment looks fairly clean- no signs of corrosion as far as I can see.
